Limp-Wristed Liberals Freak Out At Home Depot

'Gunman' Turns Out To Be Man With Nail Gun

POSTED: 9:43 am MDT July 15, 2008

AURORA, Colo. -- The report sounded ominous when Aurora police responded Tuesday morning after hearing a man with a AK47 and a banana clip was seen in a Home Depot Store.

Police surrounded the store at 3475 N. Salida St., just before 9 a.m.

Employees and customers were brought out of the store as officers with rifles searched the interior for the reported gunman.

K-9 units were also called in the search the store.

Then, an employee came forward and told police that a man matching the description of the gunman had been inside the store earlier.

The employee said the man was carrying a nail gun and was looking for parts. He had left before police arrived.

Move along, nothing to see here.

Easy enough. Check the parking lot for Priuses with eyes peering out the back windows, through the stickers of elite university names. Look for the foam stains on the Birkenstocks, caused by trepidation at the thought of nail-gun wielding carpenters threatening their cherished social programs.

Lockdown ends at State Farm; sighting was of custodian

BLOOMINGTON -- A gun scare at State Farm Corporate Headquarters ended peacefully Thursday afternoon after a suspected gunman turned out to be a custodian carrying what may have been a pipe on his shoulder.

Still it gave an estimated 2,000 people at State Farm Insurance Cos. headquarters near Veterans Parkway and Washington Street a late start on their Fourth of July holiday weekend. They were ushered into the buildings lower level for almost two hours while police searched the building and grounds.

A passer-by reported seeing a man with a long gun about 4 p.m. outside Building E, often called the Tower, the tallest part of the headquarters complex, police said.

As police teams searched the 300,000-square-foot building, officials reviewed video from company video cameras. Ultimately they determined the scare was unfounded.

What was seen by the passer-by was a custodian holding some sort of black, cylindrical object such as a pipe (slung over his shoulder) so it looked to the passer-by like it may have been a weapon, said Bloomington police spokesman Duane Moss about 5:45 p.m.

Employees were released about 5:45 p.m., and officials organized an orderly exit for the employees. They were allowed to return to their workspaces to get their belongings, and police directed employee vehicles out of the company parking lots.

Dozens of police officers from area agencies were joined at the scene by officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other emergency agencies.

The activity surprised at least one employee who was leaving as the event began. He left the building moments before an announcement inside directed workers to the basement, and he walked into police tactical teams setting up a perimeter.

I saw an officer with an assault rifle. I froze. He just kept staring at the building, said the employee, who declined to give his name.

He couldnt get his car, so he called his wife to pick him up at Eastland Mall.

Joe Strupek, State Farm assistant vice president of public affairs, estimated 2,000 employees were in the basement during the floor-by-floor, room-by-room search.

Workers at State Farms Corporate South, which is about a mile south of the headquarters, also were sent to the basement of their building a little after 4 p.m. but were allowed to leave soon after.

State Farm spokesman Fraser Engerman said a system error mistakenly announced the emergency as a tornado warning. Workers were quickly told the real reason for the emergency evacuation, he said.

Traffic at Washington Street and State Farm Plaza was restricted, and a block-long line of parked police cars filled one lane of Washington Street.

At a makeshift command post in a parking lot at that intersection, officers took the number of people inside into account as they planned how to secure and search the building.

We do know there are State Farm staff members in the building and we are working to secure their safety first, McLean County Sheriff Mike Emery said early in the incident.

The officers at the scene ranged from detectives in suits and ties wearing flak jackets to officers in camouflage and full assault gear. Well-armed tactical unit members poured out of unmarked panel trucks.

Among numerous emergency vehicles at the scene was the Department of Homeland Security Region 11 command vehicle, which resembles a large recreational vehicle. It arrived about 4:40 p.m.

Our policies worked, said Engerman. We were very pleased with the police response; we cooperated with them fully.

Bloomington police said no special security precautions were taken at State Farms downtown Bloomington building, but workers there expressed concern for their co-workers on the citys east side.

(You) don't expect it to happen here, said one woman. We want everything to be fine and safe.

Bob Holliday and M.K. Guetersloh contributed to this story.

If police routinely harrass people carrying guns openly (which is legal) thats a pattern of abuse. How come some ambulance chaser hasn't filed a civil suit?

Until they decide to stop viciously attacking law abiding citizens who choose to carry a gun legally as well as the 2nd amendment in general, then Ill attack right back.

Sorry, but I have no sympathy nor will I show any niceness for those that cannot and refuse to understand why we were granted the right to keep and bear arms in order to defend ourselves from a government that's gone tyrannical and do everything in their power to take right away from me.

I live in a liberal fantasy land where most people have never even seen a gun. And if some dick walked around the hardware shop in a menacing manner with nail gun, it would exactly be the local good ol' boys who took him down personally for being some sort of c***.

They wouldn't be pissing & moaning about it on the internet, because they're precisely the type of fella's with actual real lives & who don't care abou internet cudos. Their lives are too busy with income, wives. kids and engaging interests to actualy give a flying fornicate. But yeah, maybe I'm from elsewhere... we just don't have murderous psychopathic loonies that often, but we do have large hardware stores.

You will get busted for inciting fear and panic or whatever crap law that is about scaring the shit out of people in public.
I've seen AKs being bandied about at shooting ranges, people's backyards and at gun shows. I've never seen anyone tote one into a Home Depot. If I did I would be perturbed enough by their possible intentions to leave in a hurry. I wouldn't call authorities unless I heard the person open fire, though.

It is not illegal to carry a legal firearm; wow, that sentence sounds stupid on its face. Open carrying introduces a new set of complexities which differ from state to state.

It may sound stupid, but it is a factual statement, granted that each state has their own law about "open carry" which addresses having a weapon strapped on and exposed to view. There is not law, for example, against having a long gun in your truck's rifle rack nor if you were walking down the street. For the LE to pull out the old "inciting to riot" charges is just one more example of how there are too many laws on the books such that anyone can be arrested on any charge, anytime, anywhere. Welcome to the gulag. IMO the only folks who get all worked up in a lather over seeing a gun are the ones who should be kept away from them in the first place.

Vehicle packed with guns raided in Vancouver's West End
Quote:

Jul. 14 2008 ctvbc.ca

Police hauled a number of firearms out of a vehicle driving near the West End Community Centre on Sunday morning.

Four men were detained while officers pulled out several long-barreled guns and placed them on a sidewalk near Denman Street and Haro Street just after 11 a.m.

The incident began when an "alert citizen" called police after the person saw two men standing at the rear of a vehicle on Haro Street, holding a long-barreled gun, said Vancouver Const. Jana McGuinness.

The two men drove off, but police stopped and searched their car, as well as another vehicle believed to be traveling with them.

That's when the men were taken into custody and five long-barreled rifles were seized, she said.

But after checking police found out that the guns were legally registered to one of the men.

That doesn't mean that the men won't be charged -- police are investigating whether the guns were being transported properly, said McGuinness.
Some good comments attached as well:

My wife and I live in an urban centre and often take our legally owned and secured firearms to the range for a day's sport. Should I expect a high-risk takedown along the lines of what is depicted in this story if a neighbour doesn't like it?
Course I expect the polio's solution to this 'confusion' brought on by the terror meme would be to ban all guns?

SLV>GLD 07-18-2008 06:26 PM

Re: Limp-Wristed Liberals Freak Out At Home Depot

Keehah, that is a sad article indeed.
"Alert citizen", my ass.

I cannot count the number of times I have stood at someone's pickup truck in broad daylight in a populated parking lot while that person hauled long arms out from behind their seat for prideful display. I can just begin to count the number of times I've been the one pulling the weapon out into view. I always laugh at the people who get all bent out of shape and uncomfortable just because a firearm is present. You know you've got a live one when you open the action to show the concerned that the chamber is empty and they recoil in horror as if looking into the action might cause the hidden round to explode in their face.

I won't laugh so hard now that I've read that crap.

So in the Alice-in-Wonderland world of the Minnesota legal system, the way to legally carry an AK-47 (semi-auto, of course) style rifle with a "banana" magazine ("clips" feed magazines; "magazines" feed the weapon's chamber) is to first obtain a permit to carry a pistol!

Not legal advice. If you need legal advice, I suggest to consult a competent attorney, if you can find one. DYODD.

Some of you kids crack me up with your generalizations. You have no idea if the person was a 'liberal tree hugger' or not. And WTF is a liberal tree hugger anyway. Not all liberals are bad, it is the liberals who have been fighting for your civil rights for decades and many of the things you enjoy in America are because of years of progressive politics.

Granted, liberals have done some pretty stupid things, FDR and LBJs welfare states come to mind and Clintons gun grabbing, but I think it is unfair that you lump all liberals in with some moron who thought a nail gun was an AK.

Got that right, I used to live there back in the 80's got the hell out, and moved to Lakewood before the BOOM hit, was wonderful (ruined it with all the building).

Now I'm in cornbilly country in IL and get to live alongside the white crackers, but at least they work for a living and have some morals and values v. wannabe gangsters and self-important, living beyond their means, yuppies, and all the welfare parasites (Aurora had a lot of these and transients) and that was back in the 80's, I can't imagine now.

Boulder is a cool city...would have moved there if I could have afforded it, lots of free down to earth thinkers, some a little too liberal, but you'd be surprised at how many conservatives live in Boulder as well. Boulder has a wide range of diversity in lots of areas, yet maintains it's own homozygous attributes. Some wackos, yeah, but that's ok; Boulder has its own unique lifestyle, and they also had the BEST rock and roll radio station in Colorado :)

Besides it's beautiful country...of course, I'm sure some of their liberals have problems with GUNS...you have the flip side of Boulder that is Pro-2nd amendment, again, it's a diverse city. Everyone (used to be this way) just did their own thing.

Open Carry of long gun (even loaded) is legal in many states.

Indiana it's legal to OC a rifle or shotgun w/o a permit/license. Not saying they won't try and charge you with something else, but it's legal.

BTW No "brandishing" laws here in Indiana, so thats one thing they can't trump up on you.
